c.1930 McDowell Mfg. Co., Clockwork Loop-the-Loop #2
Fantastic steel litho clockwork loop the loop toy manufactured by McDowell Mfg. Company in Pennsylvania. Toy uses an unusually complex triple gear mechanism, accompanied with a swing arm, a coiled ribbon spring and lead fly wheel. Steel car with silhouetted driver runs from one end to the other completing a double loop. Movement is accomplished by rocking the entire track. It actually pivots using the axle located above the center of the loop. The lead flywheel allows the motor to run using it's own inertia thereby doubling the length of time that the toy actually works. Pretty clever. Toy consist of two track sections with end tabs that interlock into the loop. The loop is attached to the base and is unmarked. It's only the second time (2006) I've found this toy in excellent working condition. Size: 25" assembled. Sold: Nov. 2006
